ReSTOR, ReZOOM, VISIAN ICL, CUSTOM VUE WAVEFRONT LASIK, INTRALASE, ADVANCED SURFACE ABLATION and CATARACT surgeries.

SPECIAL SURGERY NOW AVAILABLE TO
END NEED FOR READING GLASSES
One of the challenges that LASIK surgeons have faced for more than a decade is eliminating the need for reading glasses in individuals 45 and older. In the past, LASIK surgeons could use monovision (correcting one eye for near vision, the other for distance), but not everyone could tolerate this. Now, the FDA has approved the ReSTOR lens by Alcon that addresses the real problem – the lens inside of the eye. The ReSTOR lens – which helps one see near, intermediate and far – is implanted in place of the existing lens. And, with ReSTOR surgery, one will not need cataract surgery later in life. A similar type lens, CRYSTALENS, is also FDA-approved, and Dr. Whitsett can perform this surgery, too, however, he favors the results of ReSTOR. For more information, click here.
VISIAN IMPLANTABLE CONTACT LENSES (ICL)
CAN HELP INDIVIDUALS WITH HIGH MYOPIA (NEARSIGHTEDNESS)
For those ages 21 to 50 with high myopia (nearsightedness up to -15 to -20 diopters) who may not have been able to have LASIK or PRK, Dr. Whitsett can now provide the Visian ICL (Implantable Contact Lens). For more information, click here.

CUSTOM VUE WAVEFRONT WITH INTRALASE USHERS IN ADVANCED STATE OF LASIK SURGERY
The most exciting news in laser vision correction in recent years has occurred with FDA approval of VISX's Custom Vue TM Wavefront treatment for patients with nearsightedness and/or astigmatism. With Wavefront-guided LASIK, patients who qualify can possibly see better than 20/20. Based on its sophisticated diagnostic testing, Custom Vue TM Wavefront-guided LASIK provides surgeons a new level of accuracy and precision. Wavefront testing identifies and measures imperfections in an individual's eye 25 times more precise than previous methods.

INTRALASE TECHNOLOGY ENHANCES
LASIK SURGERY RESULTS
Before LASIK surgeons like Dr. Whitsett can utilize the Excimer laser to reshape the cornea and correct refractive errors, the upper layer of the cornea has to be opened. New IntraLase technology provides a less invasive, computer-controlled approach to the important first step in LASIK surgery - making the flap. IntraLase uses a unique laser - the FS femtosecond - to accomplish this without the cutting of a traditional blade.
Dr. Whitsett is one of a select group of surgeons in Houston experienced in this procedure.

CATARACT SURGERY PATIENTS
BENEFIT FROM NEW LENS
Thanks to the latest advances in technology and materials, many artificial lens - also called IOLS or intraocular lens - have significant clinical advantages for cataract surgery patients. Dr. Whitsett prefers the ACRYSOF Single-Piece IOL. To learn why, click here.

ABOUT DR. WHITSETT
When the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is considering approval of new procedures, Jeffrey C. Whitsett, M.D., is one of the special doctors it calls upon to help conduct patient trials. Most recently, Dr. Whitsett was the only surgeon in Texas the FDA selected to conduct its studies for the ReSTOR lens which was FDA approved in March, 2006. In 1995, the FDA requested Dr. Whitsett’s assistance in performing patient trials for LASIK.
Today, Dr. Whitsett has performed more ReSTOR surgeries than any other doctor in Houston – and more than 15,000 LASIK procedures. Dr. Whitsett has twice been named one of the top 100 refractive surgeons by VISX, the leading manufacturers of Excimer lasers.
