LASIK Surgery in Houston, Texas
The VISX Star S4® Laser Offers Extra Level of Precision
The VISX Star S4® excimer laser is a superior laser for LASIK eye surgery because of its iris registration, Active Trak™ three-dimensional eye tracker and Variable Spot Scanning (VSS). Many LASIK surgeons nationwide utilize the VISX STAR S4 because it does not require dilation; dilation makes it more difficult for the surgeon to operate and causes temporary glare and light sensitivity for the patient.
Iris Registration
With iris registration, two images are taken – one pre-operatively, the other just before surgery. This allows Dr. Whitsett to match up to 48 reference points – and helps produce a technologically-advanced procedure that precisely aligns the laser for optimal results.
Active Trak™
The Active Trak™ has dual, side-mounted infrared cameras that continuously position the laser beam on the eye. Eye position and speed are checked at least six times before every pulse compared to only 1.7 times per pulse with radar-tracking lasers. The three-dimensional capability tracks the x, y and z axis such that Active Trak™ not only follows the left and right movements of the eye, but the up and down movements that can occur when one breathes.
Variable Spot Scanning (VSS)
Variable Spot Scanning involves overlapping laser spots that ensure the corneal tissue correction is maximized.
The Whitsett Vision Group surgery center has its own VISX Star S4® for LASIK surgery in Houston, Texas. This advanced laser is capable of utilizing CustomVue® Wave Print data which allows Dr. Whitsett to perform Wavefront LASIK surgery in cases that warrant this extra level of precision.
Recent generations of the VISX Star S4® have also expanded treatment zones which help individuals with larger pupils to qualify for LASIK and minimize glare and halos post-surgery.
